All good adventures, no matter how meticulously planned, end up breaking out of the mold you so carefully crafted. Our Kiwi Tour ’11 was no different, and resulted in a much more exciting story to tell. While we weren’t able to explore New Zealand as much as we planned due to illness, that setback gave us the opportunity to see more of the south island than anticipated. The north island and the northern half of the south island have yet to be explored by the FJC Magazine crew, but that’s great since we now have a very good reason to go back.
We shot over 700 photos and 5 hours of video while in Aotearoa but unfortunately only a very small subset of our images will fit in this issue. Soon we’ll post many more of our photos on this website, so be sure to check it often latest releases. We are still working on editing some of the video down to a watchable movie and will release that as soon as possible.
For now, enjoy our thoughts and photos from one of the greatest adventures we’ve ever taken. We’re excited to share this with you, and hope to see many of you around the country (and world) in the years to come.
Until next time, Stay the Trail, Tread Lightly, Leave No Trace, Stay Safe, and HAVE FUN!

We're back in Colorado and can say, without a doubt, that we had the most amazing adventure of our lives!
If you’ve been following our Facebook or Twitter updates, you saw that we were delayed for a few days due to sickness. We ended up staying on the south island, and took some time to recover in Queenstown. We were able to do a few things before our forced down-time, and have been able to get out a couple of times in the last few days.
For our last day in the Queenstown area we wanted to explore a little bit. After pouring over several maps, we decided to give Crown Range Road a try. As the highest sealed (paved) road in New Zealand, we were sure it would offer great views and lead us to interesting dirt tracks.
Things don’t always go to plan, and we certainly found that out on Day 3 of the Kiwi Tour ’11. Our original plan was to make our way down to the Borland Lodge, where we would run Borland Road and hang out in the wilderness for a few days. Despite our best planning efforts, we really didn’t realize just how far out the Southland area of Borland Road is. To put it simply, it’s a journey!
Our second day in NZ started chilly and damp. The rain in Christchurch persisted, so after a quick stop at the grocery store for a few supplies, we headed toward Twizel.
